Thalassemia

Since the 1st of June 2023, Karma started a thalassemia project, funded by MSF France for a period of 12 months, aiming at providing comprehensive multidisciplinary care, free of charge, for a specific number of pediatric patients with thalassemia, residing in Lebanon. 

General Objective

Reducing morbidity and mortality among vulnerable pediatric patients with Transfusion Dependent Thalassemia in Lebanon

Specific objectives

90 pediatric patients with Transfusion Dependent Thalassemia, make adequate usage of the secondary and tertiary health care necessary for their management, supported by Karma, in Elias Hrawi Governmental Hospital in Zahle,Bekaa, Lebanon, 

Related activities: 

Organization of blood donation campaigns and daily recruitment of blood donors aiming at providing around 140 blood units per month, to cover the needs of transfusion for the target patients. This activity is done in collaboration with the Lebanese Red Cross.
